Your tasks are varied
As an apprentice multi-skilled mechanic, you learn manual turning, drilling and milling in courses of study offered in cooperation with the Swissmechanik trade association in Lucerne. Then we quickly give you the opportunity to operate and program modern CNC machines. Roland Knöpfel, multi-skilled mechanic trainer at ABNOX, explains: “Measuring and assembly technology, electrical engineering and pneumatics are part of the basic education as well. Thus you also learn to assemble electrical and pneumatic control units used in our systems.”
Omri Shaul, apprentice multi-skilled mechanic in the first year of the apprenticeship, introduces ABNOX in this video. Omri was included in day-to-day production shortly after starting the apprenticeship last summer. “In a midsize company, apprentices learn a lot from the outset because they are in contact with all of theire colleagues,” Roland Knöpfel continues. For example, they interact with the Design department to discuss the production drawings.

An apprenticeship as a multi-skilled mechanic gives you a practical foundation for your industrial career. Mechanical engineering in Switzerland has an outstanding reputation and, while some may dispute this, will continue to be in demand in the future. If you are interested in technology, an apprenticeship usually gets you an attractive job more easily than the academic path. And if you do change your mind: The doors to many advanced technical colleges are open to trained multi-skilled mechanics.
